SOFTLINK libraries now include over 1,000 software devices.

"softFEP Apps to process Dream Chaser's in-flight command and telemetry links"

AMERGINT Technologies has completed delivery of softFEP systems to Sierra Nevada Corporation for the Dream Chaser ground stations. SNC will deploy the softFEP Apps in a mixed hardware and virtualized environment to process the in-flight commanding and telemetry links for the Dream Chaser Cargo System.

“We’re extremely excited to be working with Sierra Nevada Corporation in support of this inspirational spacecraft,” said Brian Willette, AMERGINT's Director of Narrowband Digital Systems. SNC is using AMERGINT’s softFEP processors to connect Dream Chaser’s ground control system to NASA's Space Network utilizing Space Link Extensions (SLE) connections. Willette added, “Our proven experience with the NASA networks and protocols reduce risk for the upcoming first cargo mission.”

SNC’s Dream Chaser spacecraft is a multi-mission space utility vehicle which was selected by NASA under the Commercial Resupply Service 2 (CRS2) contract to provide cargo delivery, return and disposal service for the International Space Station (ISS). It will carry supplies and science experiments up to the ISS, and then return safely to earth via a runway landing.

AMERGINT Announces Delivery of Multiple Satellite Test Systems


AMERGINT Technologies Inc. has delivered a suite of satellite test ground support equipment to Ball Aerospace.

AMERGINT has made recent deliveries on three projects, giving Ball Aerospace new and enhanced ground support equipment for factory and launch site testing of spacecraft. The deliveries include:

  • A wideband test set that captures and records payload data at real time rates,
  • A narrowband test set that supports RF telemetry and command links, and
  • A satellite test console for power control, discrete commands, and spacecraft monitoring.

“We were able to precisely tailor these complex systems to Ball Aerospace’s specific requirements and deliver them on a very short schedule,” said Tony Guidry, AMERGINT’s Director of Range/Launch Systems. “The shared, single architecture and configurability of our products, coupled with close teamwork with Ball Aerospace’s engineering staff, were the key ingredients for all three systems.”

These three deliveries illustrate the depth and span of AMERGINT’s product lines and engineering staff. AMERGINT announces expansion of its Colorado Springs facility and opening of a satellite office in the Denver-Boulder corridor. The company continues to add engineers, technicians, and staff to fill open positions.

“AMERGINT is about to celebrate ten years, and our business growth has accelerated.” said Rob Andzik, AMERGINT’s President. “When this latest build-out is completed in November, we will have offices and lab space for nearly 100 engineers and support staff.”

The construction at the Briargate campus adds offices in the existing building and new space in an adjacent building. The second building is being used for rack-level product integration, test systems, and material storage. The company also recently opened an office in Broomfield, Colorado to attract talented personnel who live in the north Denver/Boulder areas to the AMERGINT team.

AMERGINT’s rapid growth is driven by increased adoption of the company’s products across more and more customers. With this facility expansion and new office location, the company continues to invest towards the future.

AMERGINT expands SOFTLINK capabilities to include telemetry data processing, decommutation, and display


AMERGINT announces expanded product capabilities for launch ranges, launch vehicle providers, and satellite operators. The company’s telemetry processing software has recently been used in a shadow capacity with two launches from Cape Canaveral. The software processed launch vehicle telemetry links from multiple sources, decommutated telemetry parameters, performed measurand conversion, and displayed critical range safety parameters in real time.

The telemetry processing capability is a valuable addition to AMERGINT’s suite of software devices and integrates directly with other SOFTLINK functions. The measurand processing is designed for both launch vehicle and satellite telemetry. Measurands are decommutated and converted to engineering units in software, with derived parameters generated off of this data.

“Watching the rocket data flow through our system was exhilarating.” said Tony Guidry, Director of Launch Range products at AMERGINT. “The combination of our agile SOFTLINK architecture with real time telemetry processing provides real value to the range operators.”

Data can be displayed in real time, and in parallel, placed into a time-series database that combines the vehicle telemetry with ground status information to provide full situational awareness of a launch or of your ground system. The time-series database can also maintain telemetry data over the full lifespan of a satellite or across multiple launches of a rocket.

Some of the large satellites in orbit today have exceeded 20 years in space. That is impressive, to say the least, and speaks highly of the engineers who designed them. These satellites were expensive to develop, have complex mission capabilities and often have dedicated ground systems.

As these missions evolved, new, large satellites were designed on similar timelines. Each evolution represented its own multi-year program with well planned changes to match the mission, the vehicle, operations, and the ground systems.

Those older vehicles were designed for missions that existed in the 1990’s. The world has since changed and a more responsive approach is needed today. Space is now a contested environment. The U.S. military needs responsive missions as well as resilient architectures. To ensure success, these new architectures must be driven with the same philosophies, provide identical agilities as well as accommodate an accelerated rate of change, both in space and on the ground.

Small satellites (smallsats) offer a potential solution in space. They are less costly to develop and launch and have sufficient capacity for a wide range of sensors. With a lifespan of from three to five years, a frequent refresh of on orbit capabilities is attainable. ...

“We are delivering software applications in support of 10 Gbps satellite links across the full range of softFEP product functions.” noted Skip Chang, AMERGINT Vice President.

AMERGINT has a comprehensive suite of products for customers needing to capture, transfer, and process high rate data links.

  • Payload Processors ingest continuous Ethernet packets at the full 10 Gbps wire rate down to packet sizes as low as 64 bytes. That’s a packet transaction rate of more than fourteen million packets per second.
  • Recorders store the high rate downlink reliably to disk where the files can be transferred to a local archive system or moved across a wide area network.
  • Network Gateways use our algorithms to add error recovery information, and this allows paired softFEP systems to use UDP as the transport protocol and improve the WAN’s QoS. Mission downlinks can be moved in real time from antenna site to processing locations, without the need for retransmits over the network.
  • With all systems, data quality processing occurs in real time during receipt, while playback functions flow the data through post-processing software for more sophisticated analysis.
  • The 10G XAUI Conversion Module seamlessly connects these software functions to non-Ethernet interfaces. It can also convert data streams between XAUI (QSFP) and 10GigE (SFP+).

Eight years ago AMERGINT began to transform the satellite ground systems market by moving satellite communications processing into software applications. This objective quickly spread to transforming the spacecraft test, real-time data acquisition and spacelift range markets with the same software application approach. AMERGINT’s SOFTLINK architecture is the single unifying technology that makes this a reality.

AMERGINT Technologies is previewing its new Enterprise Range Services (ERS) architecture at ITC 2016 in Glendale, Arizona, from November 8-10.

L-3 Cincinnati Electronics (L-3 CE), which provides the Common Communication for Visiting Vehicles (C2V2) flight units for the International Space Station (ISS), has selected the AMERGINT satTRAC software modem/BBU to develop and test their line of flight transceivers for visiting vehicles.

C2V2 is a NASA program designed to provide standardized communications between the ISS and docking vehicles. NASA’s Tracking and Data Relay Satellite System (TDRSS) provides the relay link from the ground to the ISS and the relay link from the ground to vehicles on their way to and from the ISS.

satTRAC is a pure software telemetry, ranging and commanding modem/BBU, with all waveform processing accomplished in structured, reusable software modules powered by AMERGINT’s softLINK™ architecture. Delivery of GPS Ground Station TT&C Modem/BBUs Completed


AMERGINT Technologies has completed delivery of satTRAC™ modems/BBUs to the US Air Force for the Global Positioning System (GPS) ground stations.

According to Keith Coble, AMERGINT’s Vice President of Marketing and Sales, “satTRAC Space-Ground Link System (SGLS) Modem/BBU’s were competitively selected to provide the next generation of Telemetry, Tracking, and Commanding for GPS Satellites. The innovative design of satTRAC was instrumental in enabling the project to progress rapidly from PDR to live satellite testing and delivery.”

Full functionality of the satTRAC modem/BBU was verified against on-orbit IIA, IIF and IIR GPS spacecraft from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. AMERGINT engineers easily configured satTRAC’s software processing chains for the GPS mission. satTRAC’s industry-leading architecture enabled rapid customization of satTRAC interfaces to match the legacy system without requiring changes to the existing GPS command and control software.

United Launch Alliance (ULA) recently installed a new Landline Instrumentation System Data Acquisition System (LIS DAS) from AMERGINT at the Atlas V launch pad. Leveraging AMERGINT’s softFEP products, the LIS DAS is a critical data collection and processing system used during assembly, checkout, and launch operations. The LIS DAS connects to several thousand sensors on ground support equipment and the Atlas V itself, sampling each sensor and commutating an aggregate telemetry stream to the voting computers that control the launch. This was the first Atlas V launch using the new LIS DAS.

“It was incredible to watch the launch and know that our softFEP product played a key role in its success,” stated Rob Andzik, AMERGINT’s Vice President and lead engineer for the project. “The LIS DAS showcases the softFEP product’s ability to sample, process, and display such a diverse set of critical sensor data, all in real time with very low latency.”

AMERGINT worked closely with Austria’s DEWETRON GmbH on the project, with DEWETRON providing the data acquisition front-end hardware. DEWETRON’s state-of-the-art TRION modules were key to achieving the sampling accuracy and channel density required.

Tony Guidry is another AMERGINT engineer who played a key role in the project. Tony said, “AMERGINT is both proud and excited to see this complex system perform flawlessly in its first use. The LIS DAS will support Atlas V launches for many years to come.”

Successful Modem/BBU Compatibility Testing with Orbital ATK Satellite Completed

AMERGINT Technologies and Orbital ATK have successfully completed Telemetry, Ranging and Commanding using AMERGINT's satTRAC Modem/Baseband Unit (Modem/BBU) to an Orbital ATK STAR2 satellite.

Orbital ATK conducted tests to demonstrate full operational compatibility of the satTRAC Modem/BBU with satellites manufactured by Orbital ATK.
